Low-Carb Diets: Myth vs. Truth

Low-carb diets like the Atkins diet are just a “fad.” Myth vs. Truth?

What I’m teaching you here, this is 200 year-old knowledge, that used to actually be “common knowledge.” The truth is this :

Carbohydrates have been known to be uniquely fattening since the 1800’s!

And this used to be common knowledge, even among physicians up until the 1960’s.

What changed in the 1960’s? Well the medical establishment theorized, and they hypothesized that saturated fat caused heart disease. So the medical establishment said, “You’ve got to cut the saturated fat.” And… Heart disease was also associated with obesity. So the medical establishment said, “Good. If you cut the saturated fat, then you might lose weight too.”

Essentially, the medical establishment thought saturated fat caused both your obesity and your heart attack. But that’s never actually been proven!

Truth – Low-Carb Diets: Helping People Lose Weight Since 1825

This was published in 1825. So I’m not teaching you anything new. I’m not revealing knowledge that has never been revealed before. And I’m going to give you this quote:

As it has already been clearly shown, it is only because of grains and starches that fatty congestion can occur, as much in man as in the animals… And it can be deduced, as an exact consequence, that a more or less rigid abstinence from anything that is starchy or floury will lead to a lessening of weight

“Oh heavens!” all you readers of both sexes will cry out, “oh heavens above! But what a wretch the professor is! Here in a single word he forbids us everything we most love, those little white rolls… and those cookies… and a hundred other things made with flour and butter, with flour and sugar, with flour and sugar and eggs! He doesn’t even leave us potatoes, or macaroni! Who would have thought this of a lover of good food who seemed so pleasant?”

“What’s this I hear!” I exclaim, putting on my severest face, which I do perhaps once a year. “Very well then; eat! Get Fat!”

Quoted from Jean Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste, published in 1825!

So are low-carb diets just a “fad?” No! Low carb diets have been know to help people lose weight since 1825.

Truth – Low-Carb Diets: Helping People Lose Weight Since 1869

William Banting published the first diet book ever in 1869. The guy was a 5 foot 5 inch retired undertaker in London who weighed 205 pounds. So 5 foot 5 inches and 205 pounds. That’s a pretty big guy. And here is a quote from his book:

The items from which I was advised to abstain as much as possible were:

Bread, butter, milk, sugar, beer, and potatoes, which had been the main (and, I thought, innocent) elements of my subsistence, or at all events they had for many years been adopted freely.

These, said my excellent adviser, contain starch and saccharine matter (sugar), tending to create fat, and should be avoided altogether.

So low-carb diets are not a “fad.” They have been know to help you lose weight for 200 years!
